Kasumi was the Cerulean City gym leader, until Satoshi had a certain mishap with her bike. She ultimately joined Satoshi and Takeshi on their journey--demanding that Satoshi repay her back a new bike.
Eventually Kasumi forgets the bike, and Satoshi and she become closer friends.
Kasumi captures and trains water-element Pokémon. She is always looking for a good chance to show off her skills and capture new water Pokémon.
Kasumi once had an unfortunate mishap when a Kodakku (Psyduck) was following her. Although she did not want the Pokémon, she tripped and fell, causing a Poké Ball to roll out of her bag. Kodakku then pressed the button on the Poké Ball, and caught itself.
Kasumi travels with Satoshi and Takeshi through the Kanto and Johto Leagues, and Kenji in the Orange Islands. After Satoshi competes in the Johto League, she parts ways with him, heading back to the Kanto Region.
